Praia do Meio, a wild paradise in Rio

Image
Praia do Meio is one of the last wild beaches in Rio de Janeiro. It is located in Barra de Guaratiba, a neighborhood in the West Zone of the city. Access to the beach is via a moderate-level trail lasting approximately one hour. It has rough seas being calmer in the left corner where at times it forms a natural pool. In this same corner is a small source of fresh water where it is possible to remove the salt from the body. It is worth mentioning that before venturing on a trail, seek information and, if necessary, hire a qualified professional. Another thing, all waste produced must be brought back and it is also forbidden to feed wild animals.

Pedra do Sal, where samba was born

Image
Pedra do Sal is one of the most famous spots in Little Africa, a region in the center of Rio de Janeiro of great importance for the black history of Brazil. In the past, enslaved black men unloaded the salt that came from the sea on a small pier that no longer exists. Centuries later workers from the city's port would gather there to sing, sing and drum, thus samba was born, one of the most famous musical styles in the world. To this day, the so-called "Rodas de Samba" event takes place where people gather in a circle and sing classic sambas in reverence to the masters who created one of the most Brazilian styles of music. The events take place every Monday and Pedra do Sal is close to Praça Mauá, one of the main squares in the historic center of Rio de Janeiro.
