The best waterfall of Rio de Janeiro

Image
The Mendanha Waterfall is located in the Mendanha State Park, in the Campo Grande neighborhood, West Zone of Rio de Janeiro city. This is the best waterfall in the city where bathing is allowed. The place is used for abseiling. The waterfall falls into a well with a depth of approximately two meters.

Sepetiba Bay

Image
Most tourists are unaware of it, but Rio de Janeiro has two bays. The famous Guanabara Bay and the unknown Sepetiba Bay. Located in the West Zone of the city, it also bathes two other cities in the metropolitan region. Being in a region on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro suffers from neglect. The lack of basic sanitation in the region's neighborhoods and the intense pollution of industries located on the banks of Sepetiba Bay make it a true ecological disaster. Despite the pollution and abandonment of the place, it has a beautiful landscape with beaches, mangroves and islands. Nature continues to resist all aggressions.

Imperial Park, Quinta da Boa Vista

Image
Quinta da Boa Vista is a park located in the neighborhood of São Cristóvão, North Zone of Rio de Janeiro city. It houses the National Museum of Natural History, one of the oldest in the world. The site also houses a biopark, the city's former zoo. The park's history began at the time of the Portuguese empire. Quinta da Boa Vista was the residence of the royal family at the time. For its beautiful roads, gardens with leafy trees, lakes and streams give a bucolic touch to the park. Due to its location next to the train and subway station, it is used by people as a gateway to other areas of the neighborhood. Unfortunately, in 2018 the National Museum of Natural History caught fire due to years of neglect with its maintenance. Even today, the reconstruction works are proceeding slowly, leaving a future of uncertainty.

The first skyscraper of Brazil

Image
The A Noite building is a landmark for Brazilian architecture. It is located in Mauá square, the old port of Rio de Janeiro, downtown. Built in 1929, it was the first skyscraper in Latin America. Throughout the works, the technique of reinforced concrete, hitherto unprecedented in the country, was carried out. The building housed the famous Rádio Nacional and also served as the headquarters for the newspaper A Noite, a name that remains today. It is currently closed in a state of disrepair. Recently there was an auction but with no minimum bid.
