THE FAMOUS AÇAÍ
Açaí is a fruit from the Amazon region, North of Brazil. There the fruit is consumed pure as an accompaniment at mealtimes and at room temperature. It has a strong taste and a pasty consistency.
Here in Rio de Janeiro, it became popular a few years ago, but consumption is different. The fruit is mixed with guarana and beaten until it resembles a creamier and sweeter ice cream. Many people include side dishes like granola, oatmeal, powdered milk, and fruits like strawberries and bananas.
When you come to Rio de Janeiro be sure to experience this wonder. A tip, give preference for açaí sold in the stalls that are in some squares of the city.
