Tijuca National Park

Tijuca National Park is in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Its area covers three of the four main regions of the city.

The park is considered one of the largest urban forests in the world.

Its area is divided into four sectors: Pretos Forros, Pedra da Gávea / Pedra Bonita, Serra da Carioca and Floresta da Tijuca.

Pretos Forros is an area that is not open to visitors and has serious problems related to security.

Pedra da Gávea / Pedra Bonita is located between the neighborhoods of Barra da Tijuca and São Conrado. There are two trails there. Pedra Bonita has a ramp with hang gliding and paragliding. It also has a light level trail that goes to the top of the rock.

Pedra da Gávea has a heavy level trail not suitable for beginners. It is considered the highest stone wall by the sea in the world with its 840 meters of altitude.

Serra da Carioca is the sector where the Botanical Gardens, Cristo Redentor and Mirante Dona Marta are located. Next to Cristo Redentor there is a visitor center.

Floresta da Tijuca is the main sector of the park, where it all started with a major reforestation project. In the past, the park areas were devastated for coffee planting. However, this led to serious water supply problems. Then the project for the recovery of the forest and as a result of the water sources in the region was started.

This area of the park is easily accessible through the Alto da Boa Vista neighborhood, even near the entrance there is a bus stop.
