Cascatinha Taunay - A beautiful waterfall

 Cascata Taunay is the largest waterfall in the Tijuca National Park. It is close to the entrance to the Floresta da Tijuca sector.

Bathing is prohibited but below the waterfall there is a natural pool where it is possible to bathe.

With 840 meters of altitude it has a heavy level trail that goes to the top of the mountain. From various points in Rio de Janeiro it is possible to see Pedra da Gávea. There are legends that say the stone is actually a Phoenician sphinx. Others say the site is a flying saucer landing site. The truth is that Pedra da Gávea impresses for its robust formation, contrasting with the beach and the forest that surrounds it.

Rocinha, the biggest favela of the Rio de Janeiro

 Rocinha is the biggest favela in Rio de Janeiro. According to estimates, more than three hundred thousand people live there. Its emergence took place at the beginning of the 20th century, and the migration of many people from the northeast region of Brazil intensified its disorderly growth. As with most of the city's favelas, Rocinha is dominated by criminals, which ends up bringing insecurity to the residents as shootings are not uncommon due to the war between criminal factions and also with the police who, in a poor and disorderly way, enter the favela provoking confusion. Another issue is the lack of infrastructure. Sewage runs through the alleys and streets leaving the local population vulnerable to diseases due to the lack of basic sanitation. The favelas demonstrate the complete bankruptcy of Brazil as a nation, as one of the largest economies in the world has a large percentage of its population surviving in areas where the smallest infrastructure does not exist.
